Melissa Saunders Perryman is a self-taught artist. Although she has
always been an artist at heart, her earlier days in the workforce started in the animal
sciences. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, and began her career in the field of wildlife biology. She
volunteered with the Yellowstone Wolf Restoration Project in 1996 & 1997, where she
worked as a field researcher. Her pen and ink drawings of wolves have been used in
Yellowstone National Park literature and have been used to support the Defenders of
Wildlife Gray Wolf Campaign through the Wildlife Network.
Melissa went on to develop a series of drawings for the National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center in Wyoming. The drawings are now featured in the center's outdoor exhibitry. From 1997 - 2005, she was employed as a naturalist at SciWorks Science Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In addition to accepting commissions for portraiture, she participates in local and statewide art sales and sells art gift items at local shops. She is a member of the Whimsical Women Artists.

They have had a spinning flock of sheep and goats since 1990. Currently, She has a small group of llamas and alpaca fiber animals that helps her create outstanding works of art. Nina volunteers with Southeast Llama Rescue and assists our
local coordinator, Helen Carpenter in rescue and fostering.
Helen openly states not only is Nina one of favorite fiber artists,
but wouldn't know what to do without Nina's generous time in
helping llamas and alpacas in need. |
